The MacPherson ferries, nowadays common in almost every modern car, made its debut in the Ford Consul in 1950.
The development of this spring and shock absorber system was carried out at Ford USA, sprung from the minds of none other than Earle S. MacPherson, who was also rewarded with a job as boss of his design department due to the great success. The MacPherson 'leg' is a combination of (screw) suspension and shock absorber with knuckle. Advantages: saving space, low production costs and easy to assemble.
