AMK reader Rob has a Peugeot 301 from 1930 or something. The car is in fact completely 'new', including a revised magnet ignition, new distributor cap, new cable, undisturbed spark plug caps and fresh spark plugs
And walk? Ho but.
Apparently the magnet at starter motor pace does not generate enough spark.
Anyone have any idea?
Hello
If the magnet gives a good spark with manual rotation, the magnet is generally OK.
Another problem that may occur is that the compression between the spark plug electrodes increases and the voltage of the coil must be high enough to cause a spark to jump between the electrodes.
If the coil is not completely in order, a spark will skip into the coil or to the mass in the magnet housing.
Because the voltage always follows the path of least resistance.
To check this you can see if you can pull a spark of around 8a10mm outside the cylinder when starting.
Remove the spark plugs from the cylinders and connect the cables together and see if you can pull the spark to mass.
The cables are connected together to prevent the magnet from losing its voltage.
If the spark is too weak, the ignition coil must be wound.
