Purchasing classics there

Megaton, Dunstall, OEM, all sound ...

It was quite a hassle to explain to a motorcycle agent that under an 750 cc Triumph Trident really hear megaton dampers. And no ordinary! The mine was adapted by Kees van der Starre himself. Now there are real motorcycle agents, there are also municipal part-time motorcycle agents, all people who are extremely good. And they can steer extremely well. My agent was a very real one, and he thought I was right somewhere. In 1962 on the way to Assen for example. "You don't want to know what a noise that thing makes of you when you're behind it."

The wind along my helmet

Above the 120 I only hear the wind roaring past my favorite helmet. I think helmets are just like jeans: you grow with them ... I couldn't imagine much. “I hardly ever go after myself. But if you say so ... "The officer looked thoughtfully:" I have never driven such a thing. You step on mine and follow me. Then we exchange again at the Dieren / Doesburg exit. ”

The man ran off unheard of on my three-cylinder. And the sound that the Trident made in revolutions ... Well, of course I can say that I never rush my bike that way ... But still. In our evaluation I had to agree with the agent: “You are right. I live a mile or so from here. I have the original exhausts. And go set them up immediately. If you don't believe me, you can come and get coffee and cake. ”

Promise makes debt

The agent believed me at my word. And I have put the original dampers back on. After I also tried the Decibel silencers that I also had. But the Triumph T 150 V I ever had, it sounded much more civilized with its open pipes. Whether it was Megatons or Norton S pipes. It will have something to do with the fact that the three-cylinder push rods delivered something of sixty hp and that the Hinckley Triumph is specified for 90 pk or so. And the speeds at which the old and the new three-cylinder are at their strongest, there was - to keep it in detergent terminology - also a 'significant' difference between 6.900 rpm and 10.500 rpm.

Disaster or succes

Anyone who ever competed with his T150 with the then most up-to-date Honda CB 750, knows that top power and speed really came out. Immediately followed by at least one connecting rod. In the past not everything was better. Only then did motorcycles sound unmuted as if you were grinding frozen seals with a chainsaw, but rounder, fuller.

And something has to be done about my old helmet.

I am thinking where the fairly recent specimen is that I had proudly purchased. Oh yeah. I exchanged it for my son's. That immediately explains the old BMW system helmet that I have been lying around in the shed for a while. My good intention for 2019? Make a classic enthusiast happy with two Megaton dampers and score a fresh helmet.
