Again: auctions

Purchasing classics there

It is not that nothing else was talked about in classic circles. But the second auction of Gallery Aaldering was a thing of the past. There were critical noises. And were cheer sounds. And of course such an auction, every auction, is a business model.

The estimated revenue listed on sites is part of that game.

The auctioneers deliberately bet high. This increases the chance that bidders who stay below that price have the feeling and keep that they are bidding / buying competitively. And it increases the chance of a better margin for the auction house that its work is not done from a charity point of view.

You can be lucky with a chance card

The things that are offered at auctions are more often 'chance cards' than - for example, the classics - that are offered through regular sales, through a trader himself. Certainly with classics 'with work', such an auction purchase can be much more expensive than purchasing the same copy that is in perfect condition.

But if you include that as a buyer in your game? Oh well, why not just pull the chance card. There are tens of thousands of people who, with less chance of any positive results, also buy State Locks every month.

Auctions are already fully integrated.

Many of our advertisers have sometimes put classics on sale through things like Catawiki or BCA. Some even do that regularly. After all, auctions offer a platform for a targeted audience. And if you're lucky, your co-bidders are traders who benefit from low bidding. That way, you can sometimes really get a cherry off the cake.

A happy side effect in that approach was the 'pop-up'

A happy leap in that approach was the 'pop-up' classic sale that Potomac Classics held a few years ago. People - many private individuals - could offer their classic car there in a temporary location. The news attracted a lot of viewers and buyers. But it wasn't an auction.

Trade and individuals

But the infiltration of private individuals usually drives up prices in the auction industry, which has traditionally been a landing place for professional buyers. In the gray past, traders saw that their favorite playground at the time: sales via the Domains were 'sickened' by private individuals. That was when the police Porsches, Alfas and Range Rovers were auctioned through the Domains.

The famous 'Vroegah'

In those harsh days when people still stumbled around in badly tanned bear skins and gnawing mammoth bones through knee-thick scrub, the cards were sometimes sharply stabbed.

An aspiring Porsche buyer, for example, when he and a friend, for the second time at an auction at the Domains, showed up explicitly not to bid if he was not looking for a beating.

In those early days, however, there were private individuals who adopted their 'dream car' for around half the market value. And then we are back in that 'opportunity card route'

That proactive attitude then kept the Domains free for some time from private car and motorcycle enthusiasts. but times have changed. A private individual can play at the Domains without threats. But it is still not always made easy for him.

In the meantime, the auction in Brummen is over

The event was a success. Almost half of the offer was sold immediately. Apparently, a number of classics are still being discussed, communicated and negotiated.

The most expensive classic sold was a Porsche 356 A convertible of more than 100.000 euros. And maybe that is very cheap.

Typical for an auction trolley. You can benefit from a competitive purchase
