MRB exemptionThrough FEHAC chairman Bert Pronk, we just heard that the discussions about the MRB exemption for classics failed. It is not entirely clear whether this is a definitive failure or whether the consultation will continue at a later date.

The consultation alliance consisting of the ANWB, BOVAG, FEHAC, KNAC and the RAI Association went to the table with the nonetheless reasonable proposal to increase the exemption for petrol cars to thirty years, and those for diesel and LPG to 40 years. (Although we wonder to what extent the latter helps to improve the environment.) Based on the international age limit for old-timers aged thirty and older.

But Minister Weekers does not think it is enough. He wants - as we understand - to charge this category of vintage cars with a quarterly MRB rate or via a day pass. In addition, he also wants to tax traditional engines and trucks, while the consultation alliance wants to maintain the current arrangements for this vehicle group.

"The alliance is seriously concerned about the damage suffered by owners, dealers and restorers of classics," reports the FEHAC. According to unconfirmed sources, the proposed scheme appears to be 'too expensive'. Read in this case; it yields less. Immediately then, to MRB, because the final plus in the budget is still a very big issue. Weekers is now sending seven different proposals to the Lower House.

We read a positive sound throughout the story: the MRB exemption for old-timer may change, but it will certainly not expire. Anyway, it is still uncertain.

It is currently unclear whether the consultation will be stopped or will go further. We will keep you informed.

  3. theft. if it is really about tackling daily drivers, then there must be an arrangement that, for example, one can drive 7.000 km per year, if you drive a little more you pay a little more. but yes, the state treasury is of course not enough.
