speed record Pendine Sands
Don Wales, fastest man in the world on a lawn mower!
Breaking speed records at Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire, Wales in Great Britain is back after John Parry-Thomas's failed 1927 (!) Attempt.

Parry-Thomas then tried with his record car 'Babs', the thing was powered by an aircraft engine with a displacement of 27 liters (!), To set the speed record on land. Unfortunately, it failed. Parry Thomas lost his life, 'Babs' was buried and only dug up decades ago. The new record was set on Saturday 22 May by Don Wales, nephew of the record breaker Sir Malcolm Campbell, who wrote history there in 1924 as the fastest man on earth. The new record has been set with a less appealing machine, namely a Countax (sit-on) lawn mower. Over the miles, measured back and forth, he achieved an average speed of 86,069 miles per hour, 138,51 kilometers per hour. The next day an attempt was made to cross the magic limit of 100 miles per hour. It did not work. He did improve his own record and set it at 87,8333 miles per hour, which means a speed of 141,35 kilometers per hour! Before Wales was allowed to start his ride, he had to show the officials that it really was a lawn mower and dismantled it on an adjacent lawn. The previous record, by the way, dates from 2006 and was set by the American Bob Cleveland on the salt flats of Bonneville in Utah: 80,792 miles per hour or 130,022 kilometers per hour. Cleveland is already busy breaking a Wales' record with a new machine.
