Such an 70 percent of all Porsche models that have ever been built are still in drivable condition today. Porsche has therefore developed, tested and produced new tires that are precisely tailored to the various Porsche generations, including a series of tires supplied in collaboration with Pirelli. These newly developed tires are similar to those of their historic predecessors in terms of looks and profile design, but in terms of handling they fully meet today's requirements.
For the model years 1959 to 2005, Porsche now supplies a total of 32 new tires for the Porsches 356 (B and C), Boxster (986) and 911 (G model, 964, 993 and 996), as well as for the models with a transaxle configuration (the 924, 928, 944 and 968). The classic tires also carry the Porsche 'N' certification symbol, which indicates that they have been developed specifically for Porsche models. For the model years from 1959 to 2006, Porsche now supplies 161 different sizes for summer tires and another 131 different sizes of winter tires.
Feedback from Walter Röhrl
The new tires are not just another production run of the historic ones. They combine the looks of the original with the driving performance of modern rubber. Original profile designs, dimensions and width ratios accentuate the authenticity of the Porsche classics. At the same time, the technology of the tires is all of today. With carcasses and rubber compounds that are comparable to those of current tires. As a result, the tires combine excellent grip and balanced driving performance with excellent rolling resistance values and quiet characteristics, thus meeting the type approval criteria of the official EU tire regulations. For the development of the new tires, Porsche engineers enlisted the help of former World Champion rally Walter Röhrl. Based on his wealth of experience with historic Porsche models, he was able to give the engineers valuable feedback on the driving characteristics of the tires.
For on the road and on the circuit
In addition to this new series of tires, Porsche, in collaboration with Pirelli, also supplies a comprehensive selection of footwear for older Porsche models, in the form of the Pirelli CN36, the Pirelli P7 and the Pirelli Zero Rosso. In addition to the vintage and classic tires for normal use on public roads, Porsche, together with Pirelli, has also developed special tires for historic motorsport. Including the P Zero Trofeo R which is available as a semi-slick in sizes from 16 to 18 inch and can be used on both the circuit and in the rally sport.
