(N) ostalgie: The desire for the GDR
When the new Germans were still just East Germans and from the cradle to the grave in and cared for by the GDR, they all wanted to be western and free.
In the meantime, quite a few of those species are homesick for then. Ossie nostalgia is rampant. And they want to get back all kinds of memories that they had pushed away in horror at the time.
Many Ex Ossies also feel treated as second-class citizens. Unemployment and alcohol consumption are high in the former GDR.
Now it is the case that there were a few Dutch people who went shopping in the former GDR when the Wall fell. And these people are now doing pleasant business by selling the things they had first taken from the fallen GDR ... back to people who suffer from Ossie Nostalgia or 'Ostalgie.
And the glue on the Original NVA Aufkleber? After all these years it is still great! The VoPo Trabant - who in the meantime has also returned to the East, wears his new make-up with renewed pride.
Oh yes: did you know that many MZs MZ parts from the Netherlands go to Florida? And to Cuba? After the Russians freed Cuba from America, they brought many MZs there as part of the mobilization. There are quite a few of them on Cuba. As a means of transport. But for many Cubans who fled to the USA who have saved themselves socially, such an MZ is also a piece of nostalgia.
