Old and new motorcyclists

I was on my way for a job. During pleasure trips I avoid motorways like the plague. After all, they are deadly boring. But for work they are usually the fastest connection between A and B. I tend to float along in the flow on highways. On an old Guzzi, around a hundred is fine. While musing, I was overtaken by two motorcyclists who passed me with 130-140. They rode on the rear wheels of their motorcycles and watched the traffic in front of them along the tanks of their balance act.

The second one had a helmet camera and that also looks strange to me

For people with more machine control than I have, I always have a serious respect. For people who are wiser than I am, too. This seemed to me a matter of balance between my opinions. The stuntmen were followed by a double widened and lowered GTI from which the roof filmed a double tattooed action. While driving past he gave me a fuck finger. I felt boring, bourgeois and fossil. The men stood on their footrests in front of me. That seemed a safer approach. Now they looked over, instead of just along one side of their bikes.

But as motorcyclists we are still more vulnerable than the average Scania pilot. So anticipation is of vital importance. That is why I prefer to ride with the rubbers on the asphalt and with as much view as possible on the road. It is surprising how often I got off the dance because I watched the viewing behavior in the mirrors of motorists, and only the slightest steering angle of their front wheels. That has already saved me a few serious blows. But as a motorcyclist you sometimes have to not only anticipate, but also be proactive.

At the local Aldi I saw an old lady in such an osteoarthritis-friendly pastry bumbling incredibly when parking out

I offered to help her for a moment, put her car back and brought the key to the manager of the Aldi with the remark that the meanwhile crying lady seemed too dangerous to let go in traffic. It was a nice bump in the store there. But it may have saved someone's life through it. Because what was written in a local newspaper is wrong: "Older road users in danger" That should have been: "Older road users, a danger." And that does not only apply to tousled gray-crested woodpeckers, but also for bolkakrokers in somewhat older cars from the better mid-range segment.

The exception is that of oude RECOVERY: very experienced men on classic motorcycles

That kind of passionado's has survived all the traffic storms by staying awake and alert. On their Rudges, BSAs, BMWs, Nortons, Ducati and Gilera's royal axes, classical Japanese and other old stuff, they dance along the most beautiful roads. And when you see how smoothly and fluently such a senior can take turns in a descent? Chapeau! Neighbor Theo said with a smile of joy that during a ride in the Vosges he and his friends actually drove along with some riders on 100 + pk machines.

They were mercilessly overtaken on every straight stretch of road

And took the lost ground - at least often enough - back into the corners. Because there are a lot of curves in the Vosges, everyone was happy. At a stop where the men met, a young dynamic Suzuki pilot spoke surprised: “How dare you steer so quickly from those thin straps? “That was a pass for an open goal. The old men collective responded spontaneously, radiantly and in unison: "It's because we can just ride well"

The two generations did not get into a fight. They admired each other's motorcycles. And they found each other in their shared passion on the terrace in Plombières les Bains.
