Waxing a car only brings the old shine back to life for a short time. A classic 'chaining' with silicone spray is almost a criminal offense. The traditional way of actual paint reconditioning consists of polishing the old weathered paint to a high gloss. For this purpose, a sufficient residual layer of paint thickness is in any case required, because lacquer is removed by polishing.
With 'Surface Renewal Technology' there is now the possibility to give aged paint its 'showroom shine' again without mechanically attacking it. How is that possible? It is the result of relatively recent technological developments in aviation. Surface Renewal Technology, or 'SRT' for short, has the advantage that no paint is polished away during the process, the initial layer thickness and integrity of the old - possibly already locally polished - paint layer remains unaffected.
The process starts with the thorough cleaning of the car, with water and a pH neutral shampoo. Subsequently, in a well-ventilated, dust-poor environment, the paint layer is removed from special protective products with special liquids and thoroughly cleaned.
Then it's time for the combination of modern technology and, luckily, old-fashioned 'Fingerspitzengefühl'. Because then the shine is restored, the color is picked up again. The two components that will form the repair and protective layer are mixed. Then the synthetic resin lacquer layer, literally from the loose wrist, is applied systematically with a special microfibre tissue. This is done while the specialist is wearing respiratory protection and gloves. Because no matter how simple the SRT process may seem, chemical products are used.
To properly apply that product, that requires craftsmanship and experience, it is emphatically not a DIY system. The lacquer layer that is applied works in the opposite way to traditional polishing and polishing. After setting up the product, it levels out the unevenness in the underlying layer of paint and dries out slippery and hard. It is already dust-dry after half an hour, but the actual hardening takes about a week. The old color and the original gloss return to 80-95 %%. Without removing paint. The hard top layer (which is surprisingly resilient against crushed stone) also gives high-quality mechanical protection against all kinds of discomfort.
Very well. But no panacea
The SRT treatment gives tired paint gloss and color back. But of course this economically responsible, environmentally friendly approach does not remove dents, structural paint defects and rust.
The franchisor, who also supports his dealers in a sustainable way, starts from a few guidelines that are a good indication of the possibilities of his product. A combined SRT / PPS (Teflon) treatment gives the best, long-term (up to 7 year) guaranteed result. And that result is a paint quality that is reborn to 85-95% compared to new for less than a third of the price of completely refinishing the car.
