Purchasing classics there

Very prestigious. This is how the auction on the American Amelia Island may gradually be regarded. Tomorrow RM Sotheby's in Florida will once again bring numerous special and very expensive classics under the hammer in top condition. One of those exotics is the Siata 300 BC Barchetta by Bertone. This is number 38 of the presumably a total of 40 built copies. The new owner will pay a price for that exclusivity, which is estimated to be between $ 200.000 and $ 250.000. In any case, the buyer has a beautiful classic.

One of the last built. With Fiat engine.
This special 300 BC is one of the last built. Early specimens were equipped with an 750 cc Crossley engine. This beautiful “Barchetta”, however, is equipped with a two double Webers breathing 1.089 cc and 51 PK delivering four in-line Fiat engine, which has kept its place under the hood to this day. This connection with Fiat is not a coincidence. This stems from the fact that the Italians supported Siata financially and gave the small brand - which built up a respectable sporting reputation before the war - a head start on the competition. The car offered by RM Sotheby's was built in 1953 and imported into New York. Antonio Pompeo bought the roadster with chassis and engine number ST 438 BC there. He sold the Siata in 1956. The purchasing party kept the car in his possession until today. In that respectable ownership period of 60 year (!), The 300 BC served for a long time as a car that was used for competitive purposes during events.

Cosmetically cherished, almost untouched technically
Only in 1989 was this Siata officially registered for road use by the owner. Only rarely did this wonderful exotic leave the garage. And if the owner decided to go for a ride, the kilometers driven were part of a "round the church" route. In short: the Siata was cherished cosmetically while the technology was mainly left alone. The 300 BC is unrestored and in excellent condition according to the auction house. The Siata also has a completely damage-free history. It is also striking that the small Barchetta has independently suspended wheels at the front. Speaking of the wheels: the spoke rims are really fabulous to see. Through that system of spokes, four hydraulic drum brakes press the nicely polished nose against the window. And whoever looks at the workplace discovers a fantastic wooden steering wheel that rests on four metal spokes. Behind that piece of art there is a richly equipped set of instruments. The driver perceives it from real sports seats, which are also in good condition.

“Most interesting lot”
The gem of Amelia Island will be on the 12 March in March, along with numerous other exclusive exotics within which the Siata 300 BC might qualify for the title of "most interesting lot". It is simply a sublime and special work of art by Bertone that shows why Italy was so great in design art in the 1950s.
