Peugeot 205 CTI Cabriolet 1.9 (1991) – Irresistibly classic for Jody
A car hobby is important in life because it breaks our daily routine and brings balance to a performance society. For Jody, being busy with his strikingly executed Peugeot 205 Commercial and his lightning-fast convertible, the Peugeot 205 CTI convertible, a source of pure passion and satisfaction. The CTI is not just a convertible; it is a spirited, fast car that focuses on driving pleasure.
His father's DNA
Everyone has their own way of doing a hobby, but in Jody's case, the love for the 205 came straight from his father. His father always said: “No 205… then walk!” With that motto in mind, it was obvious to Jody that he would one day own a 205. But not just any 205, he was looking for something special. Eventually he found his dream car: a Peugeot 205 CTI Cabriolet, a model that offers a driving experience that comes close to the legendary 205 GTI.
Jody: “For me, the CTI is an ultimate driving experience. Driving with the top down gives a feeling of freedom, and the 1,9-liter engine makes it fast enough to easily keep up with modern traffic.”
Although its “sister”, the 205 GTI, has achieved iconic cult status and has become many times more expensive, the Peugeot 205 CTI an affordable alternative with comparable performance and the same playful character.
Magical attraction
Jody: “The smell of oil and petrol is perfume to me. Every time I get behind the wheel of my Peugeot 205 convertible, I feel my blood pressure rise in a pleasant way. The love for the 205 runs high in our family. For us, it is an emotional bond, a matter of the heart.”
De Peugeot 205 CTI shares much of its technology with the GTI, including the powerful 1,9-liter four-cylinder engine with 105 hp in this model year. The model was designed by Pininfarina, which explains the elegant lines and timeless appearance of the convertible. The CTI not only offers sporty performance, but also a surprisingly comfortable ride, especially for a car from the early 90s.
Peugeot 205 Commercial 1.8 D (Terberg)
Besides his convertible, Jody also owns a Peugeot 205 Commercial 1.8 D, a striking car designed by the Dutch firm Terberg. This unique version, with a plastic hood on a basic 3-door Peugeot 205, offered extra loading space and was intended for the business market.
Jody: “My Commercial is my little workhorse. It’s not a tearjerker, but it is a special appearance. I notice that people on the road often react with surprise and ask what it is exactly. It’s a piece of Peugeot history that is becoming increasingly rare.”
The 205 Commercial was a functional and clever modification that was produced in limited numbers, making it a rare sight on the road today.
Proud of his 205's
Both cars, the Peugeot 205 CTI and the Commercial, regularly draw positive reactions from passers-by. They are classic cars that evoke recognition and appreciation. Jody is often asked if he wants to sell his convertible, but then he smiles kindly and always answers: “I keep my father's advertising slogan alive: 'No 205… then walk!'”
History of the Peugeot 205 CTI
De Peugeot 205 was introduced in 1983 and quickly became one of Peugeot's most successful models. The sporty model, the 205 GTI, set the standard in the hot hatch segment. To capitalize on this success, Peugeot launched the convertible variant, the 205 CTI, which was developed in collaboration with Pininfarina.
With its powerful engine, agile chassis and open driving experience, the CTI managed to appeal to a wide audience. Until production ceased in 1994, the CTI remained a popular choice for lovers of compact sports convertibles.

Very nice cars, I had a new 1986GTI 10 (the 205hp) from 1,9 for 130 years and drove 240.000km with it. In recent years I didn't have to drive much anymore, the first years quite a lot, wonderful car, cunning character. Brake system was quickly completely addressed, because fading was serious. It was probably partly due to my driving style, but afterwards it was at least top. Also adjusted shock absorbers and later when the exhaust manifold was cracked a completely stainless steel system underneath (so it was a nice excuse).
Absolutely amazing cars, unfortunately no longer affordable.
Nice stuff; too bad the so-called “enthusiasts” don’t care about nice interiors, door panels, unused ashtrays, nice emblems. Enthusiasts??
