Purchasing classics there

Eberhard is of the new generation (33 years old) old-timer owners who are taking over from the older generation. What does remain the same through the generations is that the underlying idea is often the use of free time that gives pleasure and relaxation. For Eberhard, this Peugeot 403 Pickup is a fun adventure, the social aspect is important, the nice contacts and educational moments are numerous.

By: Dirk de Jong

Early on he inherited the genes from his father, who always had an intensive car experience and who urged and stimulated Eberhard to also enjoy a car hobby.

The birth certificate

This shows that the Peugeot 403 Pickup was purchased new in the Dordogne in 1960 and after his working life and the death of the owner, the car was sold from the inheritance to a Dutchman. The car then stood still for no less than 5 years. The next owner presented himself. Again, however, it did not become a moving car, but disappeared in the garage. Now for a period of 15 years. No wonder that the Peugeot is still in reasonable condition, as an indoor sleeper, the rust eater had less chance to affect the car. The purchase by Eberhard really gives the Peugeot a new lease of life.

Eberhard: “I understand that not so much of this type of Peugeot 403 has been preserved. What is certain is that many people still have a positive image of this old-timer. What is also special is that Peugeot was one of the first factories to apply diesel technology. That was already in the 20s, in the 60s it was widely used. My Peugeot Pickup also has a diesel engine under the hood. Recognition is still not a problem, because this French solidity became a great sales success in the 50s/60s, and not only in France. Of course it is not a symbol of wealth, but a practical workhorse. And that's what attracts me. The charm and the simple technique still fascinate young and old.”

Member of Association Peugeot Hollande

The aim of the club is of course to keep the classic Peugeots in the streets, and Eberhard is happy to contribute to this through his membership. Such a membership is of course also very useful for contacts with fellow sufferers.

The bodywork had very little welding. All that had to be done was new planks in the back of the box and a total overhaul of the brakes. The Peugeot 403 Pickup is now MOT worthy and can be used as a driving piece of nostalgia. With this too, Eberhard brings history back to life, a street scene from bygone times is returning. And as classic/old-timer enthusiasts we can only appreciate that.

  1. Beautiful pick-up, I still have oak upholstery for the steel tailgate and full-length sidewalls with a layout of three panels on the long side and two panels on the tailgate. This makes the Peu look even more beautiful! Have driven it for years and always provided with Yacht varnish.

  2. This must be one of the greatest heroes on four wheels in Africa. I hung out a few times with a white man in Ghana. Take a quick puff to the market, no hassle. Mister Bell also drove such a Peugeot, but it was a bit younger. Looked pretty worn out but that's what I like about it: it did!
