Life is made up of a lot of small events, and of course some big ones too! We focus on the story of Johan Deinum as a private collector and his Peugeot 505 GRD Dangel. For us, every chance encounter with a classic enthusiast is a big event.

By: Dirk de Jong

The Peugeot 505 GRD Dangel, as this car is officially called, has the body of an ordinary 505, but the chassis of an all-terrain vehicle. In other words, it was a modified chassis, the subframe and the higher springs give the space car the necessary height. The car is part of a lovely collection in Joure, Frisian, with everything to do with Peugeot, such as mopeds and of course very special cars.

Strikingly faithful

It soon becomes clear that we are dealing here with a passionate enthusiast with a vast knowledge of all things Peugeot. It is very special, because he is not only limited to the classic Peugeots, but there are also all kinds of household items with the Peugeot name that adorn his shed. There is even a Peugeot 504 Pickup that was used as a service car. This model was extremely popular in France among small entrepreneurs, just think of the French winegrowers. Everything in the shed is cherished. The Peugeot 505 GRD Dangel only comes out of the gate for fun rides together with the club of enthusiasts and of course the private rides, only in good weather.

In this article we are concerned with the rare and special Peugeot 505 GRD with the honorary name Dangel. For the right story and information, we let Johan speak for himself: “This Peugeot GRD 505 Dangel happens to be in the 2,5 diesel version. There is also a turbo diesel, but they were also supplied in petrol versions. They were converted in Sentheim (Alsace) and used as service vehicles for the fire service, civil services and forest management. Its predecessor was the Peugeot 504, which was available in 4×4 Pickup, Break or Familiale versions, and again with diesel or petrol engines. What is special is that today French voitures are still being converted in Sentheim. Each 'Dangel' is a very strong car that can hold its own in the rough terrain.”

Proud

Johan Deinum still feels love for his company Autoservice Deinum, where his son holds sway. In the senior status, Johan now likes to have contact with people with the same hobby, it is nice to share knowledge and experiences about Peugeot oldtimers and classics. Then and now Peugeot remains an ideal combination of quality, technology, style and character. Johan now likes to put in extra time to keep the Peugeots from his collection running. That we as enthusiasts appreciate that is certain!

  1. Special car! Rare. I myself had a 504 break diesel with which we went on a honeymoon 😁. A super comfortable car… those wide seats! Good looks too, especially those headlights exude character. It's a pity that the article no longer talks about the 4×4 system.
