Purchasing classics there

The green Plymouth Cabriolet was bought by Jan in 2002 in Winkel and originally came from Denmark. This purchase was certainly not a complete car, it was even completely disassembled. Two damaged engines were available on this stranded project. The first attention was paid to the engine, which was completely overhauled by a specialized company. Later a Plymouth Coupe was added.

By: Dirk de Jong

Jan applied an English system of 'running renovation', in which a different part was taken care of each time. He can tell the story passionately and share it with anyone who will listen to him. Jan has a clear preference for the American models from the 30s. Searching for parts at trade fairs was a great adventure with sometimes surprising finds. He found a brand new part for the timing chain of the Plymouth Cabriolet. All work – over a period of 15 years – was carried out by Jan himself, right down to the painting. An exception was only made for the upholstery and the linen hood. This was outsourced to a specialized company.

Fascinated

Jan is fascinated by the American models from the 30s. The design of the 1935/1936 years also appeals to him when it comes to other brands, such as Dodge, DeSoto and Ford. What consideration did Jan make to also purchase a Plymouth Coupé? Could it be because you're just in love with the model? Because his Coupé also has a story, of course.

Plymouth Coupe (1935)

At one point, a Plymouth Coupe was offered. After contact with the owner it turned out that a hotrod would be made, but the condition of the car was far too good. So the owner decided to look for another model. Jan's old-timer – a Chevrolet Coupé – was suitable for this purpose and in principle an appointment was made to do business. Tension rose, Jan now had a unique opportunity to acquire both a convertible and a coupé of the same type. Fortunately, after more than 6 weeks, contact was finally made and the exchange and purchase confirmed.

Mild form of ecstasy?

Jan: “When I see my beautiful Plymouth Cabriolet and Coupé, an electric current flows through me. Sometimes it even takes my breath away. Is that what is called a mild form of ecstasy? It is mainly the beautiful lines and that there are two types of the same brand. That makes it extra attractive. If the data is correct, then there are still five copies of the convertible. Three of them are in America and one I have in my possession. Who knows where the other Plymouth Cabriolet is driving?”

It is now chic transport, unique in shape and design. Classic cars with their own character, beautiful and stylish. You will not be surprised that it gives Jan an intense satisfaction and satisfaction?

  1. Two beautiful automobiles Jan and I understand that you also enjoy them immensely and it is very clever that you got the copies running and thus preserve this beautiful heritage for generations to come.

  2. I am known for my enthusiasm. Not different this time. What a beautiful car though. And so deeply sad that so many beautiful cars like this have now been mutilated into a 'hot rod'. Although I may well be portrayed as a 'petrol head', I speak shame of wasting something so beautiful. And even today that still happens. Such a pity. For now, just enjoy the pictures with this article.

    • My horror is also great, every time I read that there are plans for hotrod, top chopper and other cultural destruction.
A car that has been sawn to, with ugly modern wheels or lowered, etc., is no longer worth 200 euros to me.
But yeah, to each his own
