The very first Porsche, the 8 'No.1948' Roadster, was registered on June 356, 1. The car has been thoroughly modernized and modified over the years. Porsche is now bringing the original form of its first sports car back to life in the form of a show car. 1 'kept changing the moment he changed hands. In addition, the car was damaged, it was repaired, modernized and modified. This changed his appearance, but he kept his identity.
The original condition of the 'No.1' has been lost and can therefore not be restored. But Porsche managed to bring the original shape of the car back to life. To start with, the technicians made an 3D scan of the original. This was matched with scans of original design drawings and photos from the Porsche archive. Thanks to a special milling machine, a life-size hard foam model was eventually created. With the help of original wooden molds, aluminum sheet metal and pure craftsmanship, the replica gradually took the form of the past.
The paintwork of the 356 'No.1' replica also received a lot of attention. The original version has been varnished several times. That is why Porsche experts went under the dashboard in search of the original paint color. The dials of the instruments are true to nature and even the mats are knotted in a traditional and authentic way.
Core values from then and today
The perfectly looking replica - which is on the world tour in the context of the 70 anniversary of Porsche - has no engine. But just like the original, it has the front axle, steering and steering wheel of a beetle. In total it took eight months to create the replica.
The realization is historically justified. Porsche also attributes an important symbolic value to it. The design, driving dynamics and lightweight construction are the core values of the Porsche 356 'No.1'. "And that is exactly what the Porsches of today also present," said the PR department of the sports car brand.
