In memory of Ben Pon Jr., who passed away on September 30, Pon Porsche Import pays homage to the most famous Dutch Porsche ambassador in the form of a special 911. The 911 Carrera 4S "Ben Pon Jr." will be built in a limited edition of 20 pieces. The study model of the car was unveiled on 30 September in Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar in the presence of Dr. Wolfgang Porsche and Detlev von Platen. The latter is responsible for sales and marketing within the Board of Porsche AG.

More than twenty years of Porsche ambassador

The tribute to Ben Pon Jr., who turned 82 years, is appropriate. He was from 1965 to 1988 director at Pon Porsche Import. Among other things, he actively promoted the privatization and professionalization of the Dutch Porsche activities and the expansion of the dealer network. He was closely involved in the Porsche activities of dealership Autopon in Amsterdam in particular. For about twenty years he devoted himself fully to building up the Porsche organization in the Netherlands. The love for Porsche and the relationship with the family business have always remained for Ben. He closely followed the developments of both and even at an advanced age he enthusiastically participated in the Porsche Classic Challenge every year.

Formula 1

Ben Pon's life was all about fast cars. At 82, he was the oldest living Dutch Formula 1 driver. His racing career started for Porsche in 1961 and he made his debut for the sports car brand at the Nürburgring. In the same year, he drove three races in the FIA GT Championship and a year later made his Formula 1 debut at Zandvoort. He also took part in the 1972 Olympics. He came out on the clay pigeon shooting (skeet) part. He was also a more than creditable golfer. Later Pon also became a renowned name in the world of fine wines. From 1988 he built a company with his Bernardus Vineyard & Winery that grew into a leading and world-renowned producer of top wines.

Porsche Ben Pon jr. Edition specially renamed

Porsche's tribute to Ben Pon, who also received a grandstand named after him on the Zandvoort circuit, is fitting and very worthy. The special 911 Carrera 4S 'Ben Pon jr.' was initially developed by Pon Porsche Import in collaboration with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to celebrate the 70 anniversary of the Dutch Porsche importer. After the death of Ben Pon, it was decided in consultation with Porsche AG to name the car after him and to put it into production in a limited edition.

First Dutch Porsche 356 source of inspiration

The unique Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is immediately recognizable by the exclusive exterior color Fischsilbergrau. This is the same paint color as that of the Porsche 356 Knickscheibe with chassis number 5070. That was the car that Pon Porsche Import put in 1949 as the first car on Dutch registration. That makes it not just a homage to Ben Pon. It is also a lasting, exclusive reminder of the signing of the contract for "the exclusive representation of Porsche cars for Holland" between Pon and Porsche AG in 1949 and the start of the first ever Porsche importer in the world. In the more than seventy years that the company has existed, more than 20.000 Porsches have been given a Dutch number plate.
