IPRENBURG WINS WITHOUT WINS.

The first Leyton House Westfield Cup 2016 event at the Dijon Circuit in France has become a victory for Jarno Iprenburg. MB Motorsport drivers Willem Vriend and Rainer von Klier are second and third respectively in the event made possible by Recruitee.

An accident in the free-driving session endangered the event for championship leader Lex Peters, but Rob Bethlehem was again a saving angel by bringing his car to Dijon so that Peters could take action in race 2 and 3.

Patrick Boxem blocked the free practice several times in the "S" des Sabliéres. The riders also kept quiet on the unknown track, with Jarno Iprenburg as the fastest in the session. Daniël Sandifort and Jan Frensch completed the top three.

In time training, Rainer von Klier provided a surprise by taking pole position. Reigning champion Willem Vriend took second place for Jarno Iprenburg.

Von Klier lost his first position, but race one developed as a penny between Von Klier, Vriend and Iprenburg. An accident by Jan Frensch led to a Safetycar situation, after which the game started again. Vriend seemed to have the best papers for the win for a long time, but with 0,020 second lead Von Klier seized the victory for Iprenburg with Vriend on 0.880 seconds in third place.

The second race was also a fight between Von Klier, Iprenburg and Vriend. They were never more than a second apart. Buddy rode in third place for a long time, but in the final meters he used the slipstream on the long straight to grab the victory for Iprenburg and Von Klier with the minute difference of 0.058 seconds. "A stolen victory," that's how Vriend described it.

The third race saw the return of Lex Peters at the forefront. Aided by the rain, he steamed in Rob Bethlehem's car in a beautiful demonstration of car control from location 10 to victory. Iprenburg took the second position for Willem Vriend.

Three races and three winners. Yet it was Jarno Iprenburg who wrote the event to his name. With three second places he scored the most points, narrowly ahead of Willem Vriend and Rainer von Klier. Vriend took over the lead in the championship from Peters, who is still second. Iprenburg rose to third place due to his victory.

The next event on the Leyton House Westfield Cup calendar is on 12 June at Circuit Park Zandvoort.
