Purchasing classics there

A dark shed. Almost invisible - difficult to take a picture - two copies of a Reliant Kitten were under a white sheet. Not the known Reliant Robin (tricycle) that many of us know but a four-wheeler (four-cylinder 850cc with 40hp).

By: Dirk de Jong

The spicy engine gave the Reliant Kitten a top speed of 130 km per hour. According to owner Joop Piersma, it is probably the easiest car in the world. The turning circle is extremely small and the cars have practical characteristics. In addition to the four adults on board, there is still room for 240 liters of luggage, not to mention the extraordinary economy. A unique product in the true sense of the word. Because the body is made of polyester, and therefore built to stay young and rust-free.

Joop has two different types. A Reliant Kitten Saloon and an Estate (station wagon) that have been staying together for many years in the attic of the shed. The cars still look excellent. And yet the car has been less popular in the Netherlands. But Joop believes that recognition only comes with age (Just like wisdom). He did have the wisdom by saving the cars for the future. Because one thing is certain. The British babies can hardly be found. The cars have become a part of its history and renouncing a loved one is a painful thing. But he was happy to take a dip in history with us with these special Reliants.

  1. My very first car was a Reliant Kitten. The 28 PM 40. Bright yellow car. Many experienced. I often remember it with pleasure. According to the RDW data, it still exists.

  2. Recently seen one on an episode of “Flippin 'Bangers”. Nice carts. In my youth (seventies and eighties) I never saw a Kitten in Drenthe, but incidentally a Robin.
