Purchasing classics there

Sometimes you spontaneously come into contact with a passionate classic enthusiast and collector who, in addition to his popular classic cars (from the 60s/70s), also has a special historic vehicle in the stables. The Renault BK from 1911 that plays the main role in this article, was found at a private party in Belgium and is of course originally from France.

By: Dirk de Jong

The green Renault BK has a cylinder capacity of 1690 cc, a weight of 1250 kg and a top speed of no less than 45 km per hour! The corridors of the car can of course no longer be traced, but that does not prevent the owner from talking enthusiastically about it. If you look at the definition of a historic vehicle, the Renault fully meets that:

  • Preserved and maintained in a historically correct and original condition.
  • Trusted to the owner with the understanding that the vehicle must be preserved due to its historical and technical aspects.
  • Is no longer used as a daily means of transport, but can participate in old-timer events in an acceptable way without the modern regulations.

A worthy automobile

It is a pleasure for the owner to keep in touch with members of the veterans club of which he is a member. Nice to experience that people are enthusiastic when they see this worthy automobile from 'La douce France'. As an owner/entrepreneur, the Renault BK is a small drain on his free time, but on the other hand, owning it is very satisfying.

Nostalgia?

When asked what nostalgia is for him, we got the following answer: “For me, the feeling I get when I listen to the old songs of Auto Motor Klassiek dive and then take a trip through classic country in the most comfortable chair. I relive, as it were, the period when I had many nice cars. Then often think: If only I had kept them, but also realize that the financial capacity was far from sufficient in the past, the enthusiasm about classics and old-timers was always at a high level.”

  1. And who says French cars aren't decent? In 1911, most of today's manufacturers didn't even exist.
Great car this Renault! Too bad there aren't more photos in this article.

  2. Nice to read, it doesn't always have to be about classics from after 1960.
Pre-war there was also a lot of fun in car land (both pre-war WW2 and pre-war WW1)
Moreover, these cars fall completely out of the “purchased from the first owner” category.
