Automatic concepts

It is not only the special sound (the V4 rumble), but also the memories of Wim's father, that give a special magic to this SAAB 96 V4 from 1969. The sound takes him straight back in time; the SAAB is like a time capsule. The photos make it clear that the car is maintained with care. It is a symbol of sustainability that has stood the test of time with dignity. The fact that the car is completely original and has never been restored makes it extra special and therefore deserves a place online at Auto Motor Klassiek.

The SAAB 96 V4 is equipped with a 4-cylinder V4 engine of 65 hp (1500 cc). The car has been in the family's possession since 2003 and, after the death of Van Dijk Sr., it was transferred to Wim in 2018.

Rich automotive history

The history of the brand, its idiosyncratic character and the achievements of the rally team have been described countless times. The brand evokes sympathy from almost everyone. It certainly has a special place in Wim's heart; he keeps the car as a tribute to his father. That this SAAB 96 V4 evokes emotions is undeniable.

Want to generate enthusiasm for the SAAB 96 V4?

Wim: “My father was not a member of the SAAB club, but he did cherish his membership of HAV (Historical Automobile Association). Just like the SAAB club, HAV aims to preserve and restore cars that, given their historical rarity, are important and should therefore be preserved. I also like to get involved in events and in the fun summer rides in the region. For me, the SAAB 96 V4 is a timeless classic and a wonderful car with a lot of character.”

Bumper business

Wim: “I notice in many reactions from enthusiasts that the chrome bumpers are especially popular; together with the grille they give a high cuddle value. I like to share that. You feel at home with people who have the same feeling, don't you? Of course it is also always about the beautiful model, the characteristic round lines and the simple construction that makes it possible to tinker yourself.”

Hobby is an enrichment

Wim: “Every time we go for a drive or stop for a fill-up, people come to chat. Some people have owned one, others admire SAAB and yet others just want to have a look. After all, a beautiful classic or old-timer is irresistible. Hobbies are important in life, and that certainly applies to the car hobby, because it breaks up the daily routine. Sometimes you get so caught up in it that you lose track of time; it is a satisfying activity.”

  1. worked on it a lot since 1965, Ford advertised at the time with the test drive from the earth to the moon non stop on an autodrome in Germany 365000km and only the door hinges of that 12M failed, the engine had no problems, what sometimes happened was the bakelite between the gear of the distribution, teeth sometimes broke off, I personally find the 2-stroke even nicer, had a DKW1970SP in 1000, the sputtering was great, went on holiday to England with it when I went to refuel, first 2-stroke oil went into the petrol tank and then filled up, then I pushed against the rear mudguard with my knees to mix the petrol, you should have seen those English people (<:

    • Nice car, had two. Also a 68er with the same color. Quite comfortable and keep up well in traffic. Tinkering is easy with these cars.

  2. Super; un-re-stored: so always beloved! The arrogance of the great powers, like Opel, has ruined this beautiful brand. Will the German car industry also suffer the same fate? For example, 49% of Mercedes shares, now already, in the hands of the fucking Chinese!
