Old drivers and oldtimer enthusiasts still look with great admiration at the classic Scania trucks, it remains great to look at. The Scania brand is synonymous with quality and is of course utterly Swedish. For years, Wiebe had dreamed of owning a restored truck from his favorite brand, and Scania made a huge impression on him. Especially because he drove this model in his working life.

After retirement, Wiebe wanted a classic truck and his years of quests ended with the discovery of a beautifully restored 70s Scania.

Wiebe worked for various companies in the transport sector. In his early years mostly abroad and later on to destinations only in the Netherlands. It was years of hard work with many hours behind the wheel and always proud of his trucks. And now as a retiree of course proud of his classic trucks from the sixties & seventies. For him a wonderful reminder of his working life.
History of the Scania AF-98-16
Wiebe: “I found the truck on the internet and after an appointment I immediately set course for IJsselmuiden, where the owner lived. He was a mechanic and employee at Wezenberg, a specialist in trailer construction. This mechanic had a hobby to revive old trucks, what his eyes saw could make his hands. The eye for detail is clearly visible in the Scania. With every progress of the work he took photos so that the new owner got a good idea of the quality of the work. ” As the new owner, Wiebe has been whistling behind the wheel for several years now, also as an ode to a bygone era.
Nostalgic transport
His interest in nostalgic transport can be seen much better in his shed, where a 1964 Bedford is shining as an open truck. He was able to take over this beautiful Bedford more than 8 years ago from an enthusiast who, due to his advanced age, had to sell his hobby project. The Bedford has a glorious history as a van and truck brand, it was one of the larger brands in the Netherlands for years. It was even the best-selling brand for quite some time. Unfortunately it is all in the past, and therefore so beautiful that Wiebe can still drive around in the area in this beautiful Bedford truck. And also important: His participation in events and truck festivals where he meets his soul mates who all share an enthusiasm for nostalgic transport.

truck museum tip: Cees de Rijke former Transport Company Spijkenisse, museum with approx. 200 vintage cars, also cars and motorcycles, value approx. 5 million is located in Oostvoorne, bought in 2017 by entrepreneur Verkooyen.
It looks beautiful. Respect for the golden hands that realize this.
For practical reasons I wonder whether instead of the loading floor would not be better (possibly as an exchange facility) a motorhome construction.
Wasn't Scania a spinoff from Saab?
No, Saab bought Triumph engine blocks in England before the Scania factories merged with Saab.
Saab and Scania have merged since 1969 and so it became Saab - Scania. From that time on, Scania produced the engine block for the Saab and is therefore not a spin-off but the heart of the Saab.
In my opinion, Scania is the best and especially the old torpedo models are great
