Formula Ford Schumacher
The Van Diemen RF88 that Michael Schumacher's career started with. Expensive car!
Van Diemen RF1988 Formula Ford 88, dating from 1600, with which Michael Schumacher finished second in the European Championship - behind the Fin Mika Salo - is for sale. The car was purchased new by Jürgen Dilk from Eufra Racing in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

The following season the car was driven by Fesser and the touring car driver Druckenmuller. Werner Olbrice became the new owner at the end of the season. He raced it eight times. In 1991, Schumacher began to become world famous and the Van Diemen became a sort of retirement reserve for this Olbrice. A good offer made him sell the 1998 car to a British collector, whose current owner bought the car again. The fully restored car, even equipped with a set of Bridgestone tires of the type that Schumacher raced in 1988, is mounted. An offer of over £ 45.000,00 has been made, but that was not enough. The most likely is that in the very near future this Formula Ford will be hammered off for a considerably higher amount through one of the well-known auction houses…. As for Schumacher, who, after winning a go-kart championship, was offered by a certain Peter Sieber to take a test drive in a Formula Ford. That cost - then - 500 German Marks, an amount that neither Schumacher nor his family come to cough up. The aforementioned Jürgen Dilk did sponsor him, but when talent hunter Willy Weber saw him racing, he immediately signed a contract with Schumacher, a connection that still exists today.
