Intended as a tough competitor for the 2CV, Renault only made the R3 for the home market. That was an excess of R4 with a smaller engine block.
The Renault 3 was only built in 1961 and 1962. Due to the smaller engine, 603 cc. instead of 747 cc, the number of “fiscal horsepower” (which determined the amount of road tax in France) was not four, but three horsepower.
The stripped version (no heater fan, no door trim, no rear side windows, only available in gray) did not hit the market and production ceased after 2526 units.
Of which we therefore did not find a small percentage in la Haute Normandie.
