Sexism and sex

'Sex sells' is a winged marketing cry. But it is also proven that sexual associations can turn out to be negative. It happened to Ford's Edsel and at BMW they also got the wind from the front. But how sexually obsessed you have to be to see genitals in everything.

We are talking about the noses of the Edsel, various BMW quadricycles and the revolutionary BMW K100. And with a frowning forehead you are thinking “What is this about?” Then it appears that you have an open mind.

The crushed grilles

Edsel is a former American car brand launched by Ford Motor company in 1958.The model failed and is known as one of the biggest and most expensive failures in the American auto industry. Edsel was dropped again in 1960. Because what feminists were so keen on in 1958 in The States, that was the Edsel's grille. Because: "It looked like an open female genitalia". AND that while more objective observers had come to the conclusion that the only startling thing about the Edsel was the grille, because it looked like a hammer. A ham was a fairly common concept at the time: A ham is a wooden, often two-piece neck yoke that is placed around the neck of a draft animal in order to be able to pull a vehicle or agricultural implement.

That the Edsel was not successful was not due to the grille. The car did not bring anything new, was carelessly assembled, large, thirsty and had a poor road holding, and arrived just as the market demanded lighter, less-consuming cars.

BMW had already had a headwind because rabid feminists interpreted the famous 'kidneys' of the BMW grille as wide open labia. The round BMW logo on the hood was then of course….

Later when the revolutionary BMW K100 was introduced, the same storm broke loose in a glass of water. That problem disappeared with the evolution of the K100 models. The 'naked' first performance was given a neat dressing and very well thought-out bodywork.

The interior as a contraceptive or pleasure garden

On the other hand, with his T model, Henry Ford was ahead of all possibilities and difficulties. And he did it in a purely practical way: He deliberately made the interior too tight to be able to make love in it. Playful minds, incidentally, concluded that it was almost possible for short couples to have standing sex in the exceptionally high Ford. For passionate young couples, the introduction of the sofa beds was much more inspiring than the grille of an Edsel. And the introduction of the Vans was a fantastic boost for American prostitution.

It's all in your head

Oh well, it is reminiscent of the man who does such a spot test at a psychologist. He must say what he sees in random ink stains. The man sees at least one naked woman or a couple in every inkblot. The psychiatrist concludes: "Sir, you are completely obsessed with sex." The man reacts like being stung by a wasp: “What! And who says that! You are showing me dirty places all the time! "

That was just a wrong approach

Sex

And that also made people angry
