A few years ago you didn't give a euro for it, but in 2010 it is a stable investment: the Opel Ascona B. From 1976 to 1981 produced in unprecedented numbers, but since a few years a rare appearance on our roads. This is reflected in the prices of cars mainly offered in Germany. You don't seem to be able to score a good copy under five mille. About five years ago, that limit was considerably lower, so there appears to be progression and that is good news for the enthusiast.
Do you own an Ascona that has stood the test of time successfully? Put it away, cherish it and don't sell it. Are you looking for a nice young timer for 'on the side' where you want to keep the costs well-organized? find a kosher Ascona with not too many kilometers on the clock. They are there, but are becoming scarce! Be patient and choose a good copy; you will certainly enjoy it. Parts usually cost a few tens and there is still plenty to get. Tinkering is still possible without a laptop, luckily.
Desirable, affordable versions of the Ascona: 1.6 S, 1.9 N, 2.0 SR with or without a nice three-speed automatic transmission. Avoid the 1.2 and 1.3, unless you are never really in a hurry.
