Automatic concepts

An empty garage is a nasty kind of surprise. In Enschede, a 1986 Opel Rekord 2.2i was stolen, and that is not exactly a car that blends in unnoticed in traffic.

It is a black, lowered Rekord with an Irmscher spoiler, dark tinted windows all around, and a custom-made exhaust that, according to the owner, produces quite a few decibels. It is precisely that combination that makes the car easily recognizable.

Theft within a long timeframe

The owner discovered on April 25, 2026, that the garage box was empty. Two weeks earlier, the Opel was still there at the moment the battery was installed. The car therefore presumably disappeared in Enschede the week before, although the exact timeframe remains quite broad for now.

That makes the exterior features all the more important. We are specifically talking about a 1986 Opel Rekord 2.2i that differs from a standard example. In particular, the combination of the Irmscher spoiler, the tinted windows, and the modified exhaust is unusual for a Rekord from these model years.

Anyone in the Enschede region who sees a black 1986 Opel Rekord 2.2i with these features knows what to look out for. Owner Bianca Evering is certainly completely distraught, which is understandable.

If you have seen the car, or know where it is located, please contact the police. Or report it here, and we will pass it on.

In profile, the tinted windows and non-standard stance are particularly striking.

  1. Fingers crossed that it gets found, and by that I mean driving and safe. As mentioned before, Enschede is very close to the German border, and these unique cars in particular are often stolen and re-registered. A friend of mine had a stunning B5 Passat 1.8T in the late 90s, and when the car was two months old, it was loaded onto a trailer and never recovered. He lives in Maastricht.

    • I don't know how many kilometers have been added, but on Sunday evening, April 19, a similar Record (unique indeed) was driving on the A4 near the Benelux Tunnel towards Rotterdam. Quite a distance away. Fortunately, it's back!

  2. Hello. I have good news, the car has been found. It was parked in a neighborhood in Enschede. An old colleague called me Sunday evening. I drove there immediately and called the police. It has been retrieved and is now safe. I am so incredibly happy to have it back!

  3. Very nice car, Bianca, I feel for you! The car probably crossed the border towards Eastern Bloc countries, got re-registered, and then sold again to Western Europe at an auction, e.g. Catawiki. I don't want to discourage you, but we just managed to prevent it from happening; a semi-classic car was stolen from the neighbor. They look through advertisements and ask for a chassis number. Of course, the number they text from becomes unreachable later on.
Best of luck and hopefully you find the Rekord! One more tip: did it have a lot of petrol in it? If not much, you could inquire at nearby gas stations.
