Streamline. Things only happen when the time is right. And a fantastic idea can swirl down like an autumn leaf when the time is not right yet.

For example, the streamlining of cars is really not something just after the first sketches of the DS.

Before WWII there were people who wondered why cars still had the looks of carriages.

The Chrysler / Desoto Airflow from the decade before WWII was such an idea that its time was too far ahead. It is only recently that pre-war cars have become more in the spotlight.

That is an evolutionary step forward, because the love for classics is heavily based on the dream cars of the childhood enthusiasts and the concept of 'my father's car'.

In terms of time, those pre-war cars do not fit so well in the image of enthusiasts.

The streamline of the Chrysler / Desoto Airflow series eroded in its era. While these cars have been carefully considered. It was discovered, for example, that many of the current cars from that time driving backwards generated less headwind than if they were driving ahead.

All that hassle and trying - with the help of aircraft pioneer Orville Wright - resulted in a revolutionary car. The Airflow.

A car that was too far ahead of its time and therefore fantastic in its idea, but was commercially flopped.

But the Airflows remain very interesting and you can read all about it in AMK issue 8, the August issue.

And if you expect a few showers this summer, then it may now be the right time to take such a huge, affordable AMK subscription. That saves you getting wet once and money.

Moreover, as a subscriber you will receive AMK a week earlier that the magazine is in stores.
