With great interest from the international car press, the successor to the Fiat 1969 R was unveiled in 1100: The Fiat 128. The Italian was the first model of the Torinese brand to be equipped with front-wheel drive. The transversely mounted engine in the front, the excellent driving characteristics and the well-balanced concept were also well received. The Fiat 128 was further praised for its 'value for money'. It was shown to the world in March 1971. It indirectly succeeded the 850 Sport Coupé, together with the later X1/9 and 128 Sport Coupé.
