VW Golf GTI. From small-scale project to resounding success.

At the Frankfurter IAA of 1975 Volkswagen shows the first real hot hatch: the Golf GTI. He is soon praised for his excellent driving characteristics. They not only invite sporty driving, but they can also be combined perfectly in daily use.

On March 29, 1974, after a fairly long development phase, the first Volkswagen Golf rolled off the production line. The Golf was the third product of… after the Passat and the Scirocco (which went into production two months before the Golf).
