The fact that classics are popular has not only attracted trade and enthusiasts. The supply on the NL market is generally from good to top level.
And cars that are offered for sale are enthusiastically viewed. It happens with some regularity that the viewers from the afternoon come to deal with the matter in the evening or at night: the car (or motorcycle) is stolen and is already out of the country before the owner has had his breakfast the next day. .
A Dutch agent / classic enthusiast found a garage company during his vacation in Poland where there were five beautiful classics. Two of them wore stickers from Dutch classic specialists. But even more interesting was the fact that Dutch and Belgian license plates were sticking out of the dirt in an empty oil container that was used as a waste bin.
The agent had a long and pleasant conversation with the German-speaking garage mechanic. And he had noted two of the license plates. At home he played the detective for a moment and it turned out that the cars belonging to the license plates in the Netherlands were indeed reported stolen.
In the meantime, contact has apparently been made with the local police in Poland.
In short: Ensure at least for proper hanging and closing work on doors. Mount a strong lamp with motion detector. Feel free to let your classic sleep with a wheel clamp on. Everything that takes more than 30 seconds of 'demolition time' considerably reduces the chance that your classic will get another owner in the most annoying way.
Oh yes: There are highly professional Track & trace devices available for our beloved classics.
We should pay attention to that soon?
