28 September: The Distinguished Gentlemans Ride: the background
It was a picture of a beautifully dressed Don Draper, the centerpiece of the Mad Man TV series,
sat on a classic Matchless motorcycle that led the Australian Cafe Racers group to
organize a new motorcycle event. The DGR was born; a motorcycle ride where the
riders put themselves in their Sunday good to have fun together in a pleasant way
to spread.
The DGR focuses in particular on Customs, Cafe Racers, Bobbers, Flat Trackers, Retro's, Classics and
other separate motorcycles, but in principle every motorcyclist is welcome. To take part
one must appear in the right clothing. This means tweed, tailored suits, tuxedos,
dress suits, evening dresses, ties, bow ties, top hats, walking sticks, monocles, blazers,
pipe tobacco, and so on. In short, everything that makes a person a distinguished appearance.
Organization
The organization of the Wageningen edition of the DGR consists of 4 man; Bart van de Vossenberg,
Daniel Brugman, Gert Welvaart and Otto Vleeming. Communication with the organization is via
DGR.Wageningen@gmail.com.
The worldwide event has an official website: www.gentlemansride.com. In addition there is
a Facebook page for the Wageningen edition: www.facebook.com/DGR.Wageningen.
And yes: It is known that a tuxedo is not one of the most valve-safe motorcycle clothing. And there is an Italian saying that says, "A life without style and risks is not a life."
Brilliant idea, the DGR, also produces beautiful photos, we see.
