There is nothing new under the sun. And once there were more electric than gasoline cars. Whether that time will come back? We hope not. But in the meantime, everything has been tried. Who has never dreamed of a Zagato? Who has ever heard of the Zagatao Zele?
How beautiful and glamorous the things you make are; if there is a crisis you will have to think of something else. Zagato as a builder - since 1919 - of the most beautiful bodywork had a very difficult time in 1972. To keep the factory in Milan running they came up with a plan: an electric city car. That would save the matter!
The fiberglass body consisted of a left and a right half and was barely two meters long. Or short. And on the rear axle crouched an electric Marelli motor of 1 Kw. That engine got its food from 4 24 V batteries. The top speed was 40 km. The range is 70 km. Sales started in 1974 and 1975 of them were sold in 225, which was quite successful for Zagato. The little scribbler was just a trend in some American suburbs. A handful of them were sold in England.
Zagato continued to make electric cars in the '70 and' 80 years. The new, larger Nuova Zeke was presented in 1981.
But luckily for Zagato and the people who loved and love beautiful cars, Zagato was back in his mid-eighties. They made the Aston Martin Vantage Zagato and the Maserati Biturbo Spider.
The electric Zagatootjes soon fell into the forgotten book.
