Purchasing classics there

BMW celebrated its birthday last weekend with a special BMW Festival. Not only did Simply Red perform there, there were also over 800 classics from such 30 countries, including of course the Netherlands.

As a classic fan, you could hardly have missed it that BMW is celebrating its centenary this year. The anniversary is celebrated at all kinds of events, from InterClassics to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, not to mention of course the Historic Grand Prix at Zandvoort. However, as a brand you should of course organize a party to celebrate your birthday. That's what BMW did - with success!
At the BMW Festival that was organized for the occasion, such 1.000 classic BMWs were present. They belonged to members of BMW clubs from more than 30 countries. The distance is not that bad for clubs from Italy, Austria or Switzerland, but there were also BMW enthusiasts who had traveled a greater distance, for example from the United States. There were also clubs from less obvious countries, such as the BMW Club Moldova. Andrei Canter says: 'We just came here to ride with our classics. In my case, that is a first-generation 520, an E12. He was Taiga grün and that is still it, only the refinishing could have been better. That is why I had children paint my car today as a reminder of this day. For me, I could have done with a lot more paint, but yes, I also have to be able to look through the windows, of course. ”

Of course there were also Dutch BMW clubs, namely the BMW Club the Netherlands, the BMW Coupé Club the Netherlands and the BMW Classic Car Club the Netherlands. Marcel Winkelman from the latter club: “So many classic BMWs put together, we obviously didn't want to miss that. The real oldies have come here on a trailer, but most cars have just driven. Only that is already a party with those classic BMWs, but it is also great to see all those classic BMWs here. And of course it's good for the club's contacts. "
In addition, there was another Dutch touch, because former BMW designer Harm Lagaaij was also present. Perhaps that is why the rows of Z1s, the only production car for which he was responsible for the brand, seemed endless.

Of course there was more to do than wander through the club cars. In the evening there was a party program in the Olympiastadion where, among other things, Simply Red performed. Cars also had a significant share in that show, from a Dixi to the 507 from Elvis. In addition, visitors to BMW Welt were able to take a look into the future, because the Vision Next 100 could be seen there. In the BMW Museum you could go to the exhibition 100 Meisterstücke, while BMW Group Classic opened the doors of the new headquarters. The presentation of a new model might have finished it, but still: car manufacturers, celebrating your birthday, that's how you do it!
