This month, many owners of a truck, passenger car or motorcycle powered by gasoline - with a date 1e approval before 1 January 1988 - will remove their vehicle from the public streetscape. A consequence of the rules for MRB exemption that were tightened up as of 1 January 2014 was that owners of such a car are eligible for the transitional arrangement. If owners of an old-timer on petrol use it, they are not allowed to use the public in January, February and December. away. Parking on public property is also out of the question. If the vehicle has to undergo MOT inspection in the relevant months, the owner may indeed drive to an MOT inspection station.

Perhaps adjustment in connection with event arrangement
By the way, there will probably soon be a possibility to use the motor vehicle in question for events. Those who use the transitional arrangement may then use the old-timer for a maximum of two days during the next three "restriction months". There is then no APK duty, but the insurance must be considered. The adjustment to the event arrangement must still be approved.

Transitional scheme memorandum 2016 must be paid before 1 January
The Tax Authorities, incidentally, sent the invoices in relation to the transitional arrangement in November. The invoices must be paid for 1 January 2016. Owners of a passenger car, truck or motorcycle on petrol that was first put into use on 1 January 1976 or later but before 1 January 1988 will then be eligible for the scheme next year. In 2016 the owner pays a maximum of € 122 motor vehicle tax and is not allowed to park 2016 on the road in or on a public place in January, February and December. Motor vehicles on Diesel en FUEL - regardless of age - are not eligible for the transitional arrangement. Owners pay the full rate for this, unless the license plate is suspended. Motor vehicles from forty years and older are exempt from MRB, regardless of fuel type.

Register a transitional arrangement
Owners who have never participated in the Transitional Arrangement - but wish to do so - must register their vehicle before 31 December. The Tax Authorities have the relevant forms available online for this purpose. Incidentally, the not yet participating owners of the vehicles eligible for the transitional arrangement have not received a tax assessment from the Tax Authorities.

Don't participate anymore?
If someone in 2016 no longer wants to participate in the transitional arrangement for old-timers, then they do not have to pay the bill. In the course of January 2016 the owners in question will receive an invoice with the normal rate for the motor vehicle tax.

Current December month
December 2015 is still subject to the transitional arrangement for the current period: the calendar year 2015. If someone has made use of the transitional arrangement this year and wants to abandon the transitional arrangement 2016, then the person concerned may in the current December month not use the public highway.

  1. Dear,

And what are the consequences if you ever turn onto the highway if your car falls under a transitional arrangement? Are you always caught by the camera, or is that checked randomly? The consequences are nowhere described! I hope you know more about this?

    • It may idd be monitored via cameras and section controls.
The fine can amount to € 4250, - and then a calculation is made of the missed road tax.
This follows on top of the fine.

  2. The above article is not entirely correct: cars from before January 1, 1976 are not covered by the transitional arrangement because they are tax-free regardless of fuel.
If you read this article literally, cars from before 1-1-1976 would also fall into the transitional arrangement and that is not correct.

    • Dear Mr. Berends. Thanks for your response. We are aware of its content. But based on your response, we still felt it was necessary to complete the article. Have a nice evening.
