Classic engines. The changing of the guards
Have you also noticed that motorcycles that for years were never in the lead now regularly look for a new owner? Motorcycles from the fifties and sixties are currently regularly offered again. And usually they are in a very good condition.
This is due to the aging population. The men who bought and cherished the childhood dream engines are now at least fifty-year-olds.
That causes problems with the kickstart knee in a clear number of cases. Then such a machine stops. Often until wife or other family members say that it should be done once.
And then they come for sale. Often for prices that we Dutch find rather stiff. Then they remain for sale for a while and disappear. Where do they disappear? Abroad. Because for fellow Europeans, our country is a true classics classic. The things are good, the prices - low for our fellow Europeans. Also for the British who don't mind at all that the steering wheel is on the wrong side with ex mainland engines.
So as a smart Dutchman it is now time to make the most of it. Then you do not buy, like your father, the dream motor from his youth, but you buy the dream motor from your grandfather.
And a classic engine from the fifties or sixties fits in perfectly with the current traffic image of the modern Netherlands, forgiven by roadside cash registers.
