Triumph 2,5 PI problem

Purchasing classics there

The one moment it ran nicely, the other moment it was drama. It's about a Triumph 2,5 PI equipped with a Lucas fuel injection. Completely happy the owner set off with his newly purchased Saloon. Nice car, perfect hum in the six-passenger. Until the engine went out and thick black clouds of smoke emerged from the exhaust pipe.

Once at home I checked the entire system. It all looked great. Then call the seller. No, he had never had any problems and had driven thousands of pleasant kilometers with his family, without even a single breakdown! During the extensive test drive, the buyer had not noticed anything of a petrol problem ... Strange. Then another - more extensive - inspection of the whole. And yes, the car was equipped with child seats with belts by the previous owner. They were removed and the holes were neatly 'sealed' with bolts, body rings and lubricated on the inside with silicone sealant. The return line - as most injection systems have - ensures that surplus fuel is returned to the tank. That return line had - by accident - crossed the return line and was flattened when the nut was tightened. Was a matter of repairing this pipe and the Triumphengine ran like a charm again. Always handy to know ?!
