Purchasing classics there

When a report day flashes with a Triumph TR6 in the lead then you know. A day like this is good for baking with anticipation. And when that is convenient, looking back on it is just as enjoyable. We went to visit protagonist Huib de Graaf, who is an uncontrollably beautiful one Triumph TR6. A sports car, with which he visited many European countries. The Triumph TR adepts and TRclub celebrities Hein Leemhuis and Ben Wilbrink were also present. With a TR6 and a TR3A. How the day went? 100%.

The stories, insights and specifications fly over the table in Heeg, and photographer Spijker and I love it. Such a day is the weather, a click on all sides, the click you long for, especially after that unreal spring of 2020. Yes, more reports have been made, and those were also big bright spots in a dark time. But the lockdown is now unveiling, and that event symbolizes the opened roofs of the Triumph TR copies.

Because the roof is going down in Heeg, after a round full of stories and lots of coffee. Huib and his wife are pur sang hosts, and that title can safely be applied to British sports cars from the time when sports cars were still rightly called that. The low seat is surprisingly good in all three cars, the view of the dashboard and instruments is great. Go ahead and enjoy. Few sports cars are as capable of providing the same level of anticipation as the TR6, pointing back the equally pleasant TR3A light years. Make no mistake, however: a TR3A still offers pleasing fun and excellent performance in today's perspective.

The photo location - a beautiful villa with an almost artfully landscaped garden - is fantastic. The drive in the beautiful southwestern part of Fryslân is also. The sky is a threat threatening, more than. The meteorological thunder and lightning fail to materialize. Those sounds come from the front of the six-cylinder Triumphs. Tasty atmospheric six-cylinder athletes that are easily followed by the four-cylinder Triumph TR3A from Wilbrink. Contemporary, it was Triumph invariably entrusted in the 3s and 6s. In a literal sense. Look at the Michelotti successors to the TRXNUMXA, which eventually resulted in the TRXNUMX. Then you know what we mean.

Huib drives - with photographer Spijker next to him - in the front in his once restored TR6 with carburation. Today that facility bears the name SU HS6 in duplicate. The restoration, which self-taught Huib de Graaf learned and performed all by himself, resulted in a stunningly beautiful Pimento ed TR6. You can also see that from the equally beautiful and technically modified Hein Leemhuis TR6 2.5PI in front of you, also literally. Vapor lock-free, you simply enjoy the way in which Karmann gave the original TR4 body design its own character, more in line with the time to come. It is not only a joy to sit in a TR6 yourself, it is at least as cool to see Huib's TR6 moving through the beautiful part of Friesland. Splitting powerfully and elegantly can be so beautiful.

So welcome. Welcome to the world of a nice narrow power band, long stroke and the classic British atmosphere. In the world of camber. The emotional cartload of torque and power, a blood-fresh old skool six-cylinder sound and top road handling do the rest. open top on the road with a philosophy that has often been copied today, but has never been matched. Sports cars used to be created. Now they are created. Everything is different. And everything was different. And above all: purer.

This is one of those days that explains why the classic car profession is so beautiful. Privilege they call it that. The stories, the experiences, the view of that beautiful dashboard, the sultry temperature. The sound, the sound. That backward pressure, that backward pressure when you press the accelerator. Man, this is enjoyment. Enjoy tasty British fruits. Adult guys become little boys. Guys, who do everything to keep the endearing sports car past alive for days to come. Who represent the classic pleasure as great good at a time when it is still caution. The Triumph TR copies and their owners show that carefree enjoyment is always possible. Today, in a cautious time, that is pure profit. Like pure profit all day.

And not only that. The day with the Triumph TR men knocked as always. As always, where we all want to go again. Sports cars like the Triumphs' are no longer built. But one thing is certain. Sports cars like the Triumph TR3A and TR6 will stay with us for a long time to come. If only because there are still so many fans. Huib de Graaf is such a lover pur sang. Ever since he was eighteen, when he fell in love with a TR6 in Amsterdam. Ever, Huib said. And that once upon has been going on for twenty-five years. Ireland, Scotland, Italy: Huib and his spouse were everywhere with them Triumph TR. Hein Leemhuis and Ben Wilbrink are the other culture guards. The three men are also TR club men pur sang. A nice company. We experienced it one day, which showed unequivocally how people can cherish their classic like that. And why they do that. It is hardly possible to imagine a nicer overture to summer there, in Heeg and the surrounding area.

Of course we do not reveal everything of the day. The magazine report will reveal many more details, stories and backgrounds about a day in a while Triumph TR spheres. Stay tuned!

  1. Hello everyone,

Very nice story, just because it is. They are super carts. We always enjoy driving our TR 3 from 1956. This year we made many kilometers together in the Kop van Overijssel and distant surroundings.
Have been a member of for many years Auto Motor Klassiek, so a party every month.
    See him coming soon.

  2. Dear Eli.

Thanks for the compliment and the addition. That is how we really experienced the day, it was a privilege.

    Have a nice Sunday.

    Yours faithfully,

  3. Dear Erik,

As a TR6PI rider since 1987 and fellow club member of the gentlemen, I enjoyed your enthusiastic story about Huib, Ben and Hein and their TR's. It's just a pity that the name of the owner of “Piglet” has a small mistake, it is Ben Wilbring. But otherwise a nice story and I'm looking forward to the AMK number that contains it.

    Greetings, Eli

    • Hello Eli, it has definitely become a nice piece and hopefully more people will get excited about the Triumph TR so that we can all enjoy this beautiful piece of British history for a long time to come. By the way, my naan, as the owner of 'piglet' is spelled correctly.
      Greetings Ben Wilbrink
