Purchasing classics there

Just to Calais and then on to Dover?

That's twice no distance. You don't have to leave for lunch for that. It was raining like crazy, but with modern motorcycle clothing that doesn't matter. And our classics in good condition are waterproof. Gone are the times when all electricity went out when someone coughed wet about it. This afternoon to Calais. Should be able! The ride took longer than planned. A flat tire. What a delay because a car driver hit one of our two-wheelers at a gas station. The clock kept running. It kept raining.

We arrived quite late in Calais

In every hotel or room rental test the desk vigils stumbled over their words while assuring us that they were full, absolutely fully booked. Really! Next to us, a dry couple of motorists shamelessly received the key to their room. We trudged away despondently. Until we ran into the somewhat shaky facade of Hotel du Liverpool. Upon our arrival, the lady behind the counter startled awake. Sixty plus. An exploded gray hairstyle and glasses with very thick glasses that hung together with a lot of tape and stood crooked on her head. She seemed shocked and staggered. It was very hot in the hall. “Mais vous êtes des motards! Vous êtes tellement humides! ”

And if we were terribly wet during the holidays! Terrified, she took a few strong gulps from her glass of wine and quickly refilled herself. Dehydration is a terrible death. She immediately went to see if she had a room or rooms available for us. From where we stood we saw that she kept the guestbook upside down. In the smudged mirror behind her we saw that she was seriously leafing through empty pages. And guess what?

There was room for us

The rooms were heated just as hot as the hall. We hung our wet stuff in another empty room, showered, put on dry things and we went to pick up our mopeds and eat some food. Our landlady was snoring her head on her desk with an empty glass and an empty bottle next to her right hand. Back at our hotel we were unable to enter. Lights out, doors at least on a lock that our key did not fit. We were not in the mood to play the facade artist on vacation. On the inner square where we had parked our bikes, there was a kind of shed.

There were some covers and so on

We thought it was nice. We made our own beds and fell asleep satisfied with the certainty that our things would be dry the next day. That next day started with sun. We went to Calais to have breakfast. We walked around and came back to Hotel du Liverpool. There the hotel owner just carefully sipped a glass of red wine. She greeted us enthusiastically and cheerfully: “Alors mes amis! Est ce que vous avez bien dormi? ”In all innocence. Whether we had slept well. So much warm human interest. Hotel du Liverpool. Highly recommended!
