Automatic concepts

It is not always necessary to go out with the aim of looking for special cars.
Sometimes chance plays a major role and you come across a number of cars in a garage that fall into the category of “worthy of any brand”: unknown and underrated cars, of which this club fortunately takes care to keep the hopeless(?) types in the spotlight.
Perhaps forgotten by many, but certainly underrated.

Flemming Punter

Many years ago, Flemming had a garage. He travelled a lot on his quests, including to Belgium, where he managed to find special cars. There he met the most special people and of course he also discovered special items from grandmother's time for his private collection.
If you enter his warehouse now, you will experience a wave of nostalgia: much recognition for the elderly and wonder for younger visitors. For Flemming, it is a unique way to sketch a picture of the past.

A selection of his special cars:
Reliant (3-wheeler), Honda Touring 600, Ford Zodiac, Matra Murena, Austin A35, Toyota Tercel and many others.
Getting older leaves its mark: often dull paint, surface rust, signs of use, scratches, dents and weathered chrome. They are simply cars that have always been in use. The description “patina” is increasingly common, the French call it “dans son jus” and the English speak of “oily rig”.

Weathered cars

Even at classic car events you see more and more weathered cars: covered in dust and clearly in use, with scratches and dents. They may even attract more attention than the fully restored classics and oldtimers.
The motorized continues to attract Flemming: he goes for motorcycles, mopeds, classics and oldtimers on two, three or four wheels. He is a super tinkerer who likes to work on the oldies to make them ready for sale, so that the new owners can start their own car hobby.

Attached to the Velorex

His motto “There is trade in everything” does not apply to his special Velorex. As a treasure hunter he found it in a unique condition and he will therefore never sell it again. After all, such an opportunity only comes once.
Did you know there was a Velorex on four wheels? Flemming has a blue example, which was registered in 1972, ready to drive and – according to Flemming – the only one in the Netherlands.

When you think of Velorex, you naturally think of the three-wheeler with a two-cylinder two-stroke JAWA engine and rear-wheel drive on a tubular frame. There are still a number of Dutch owners of that version, who you can encounter at old-timer events.

The Landerije in Basse

Once a year there is a big gathering of Velorex enthusiasts at Landerije, a camping and nature reserve. Basse is located in the Kop van Overijssel, and foreign owners of a Velorex also know how to find this place.

Stepping into the past

Flemming: “If you own a classic or vintage car, you can step in… into the past. It is a special experience to be on the road. Almost all classic cars are used as a second car for touring. I am fascinated by how simple a classic is: few switches and functions, and clear technology under the hood.
If you now also suffer from that 'strange state of mind' in which you love to immerse yourself in nostalgia, then it is highly recommended that you visit us in Noordwolde. Enjoy all the old iron, the smell of oil and the inhalation of petrol fumes. The attraction always remains a mystery, doesn't it?

  1. Nice, I didn't know this one either.
I was familiar with the much better known Velorex three-wheeler with a canvas body.
This little car must have been one of the last gasps of the micro car era (especially the 1950s and to a lesser extent the 1960s).
