Citroën 2CV

Purchasing classics there

We recently saw one fully restored Citroën 2CV AZL from 1956 and spoke to the proud owner who said he had been working on it for years.

"The car was brought back from a wreck all the way it came rolling out of the factory in June 1956," he said enthusiastically. Unfortunately, the otherwise beautiful car was green in color ... The 2CV was always gray. Only in 1959 could the buyer possibly buy a light blue one… The car was 'green' when this gentleman bought it. He thought that gray was the base layer ... In general, we will go over the specification of 'The Duck' with you to prevent possible 'errors'. From 1954, the year in which the introduction of the 2CV AZ took place. A larger engine capacity of 425 cm3 and 12 hp under the accelerator pedal (tje) so that a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour could be achieved. The word 'hurry' still had to be invented… And not to mention flashing lights placed behind the back door. The interior was also adjusted. Instead of gray canvas upholstery, now a sort of Scottish diamond on front seats and rear seats. In 1956 the 2CV AZL followed, where the 'L' stands for 'Luxe'. Heater and windshield defroster, an aluminum strip over the hood and a choice of various types of upholstery. In 1958 the entire roller roof - which reached as far as the rear bumper - was replaced - although in 1957 already an option on the AZL - by a metal boot lid and a glass rear window. Finally, in 1959, in addition to the 'standard gray', the choice could be made to opt for light blue paint on the coach… In 1960, the 2CV underwent a facelift, the 'ridge' hood was history from that year on.
