Volvo Amazons for police Rotterdam
You read it well indeed. In Rotterdam the police drove with Volvo Amazons. We have to go back to the sixties for that. I have always had a great admiration for all kinds of police cars, but that was never a reason for me to pay a visit to the servants of Saint Hermandad.
A few weeks ago, that attitude changed. While reading in the club magazine of the Volvo Classic Association, I came across an article describing that the Rotterdam Police had used a few Volvo Amazons in the 1960s. I needed to know more about that. After a lot of searching, it turned out that a museum was located in Rotterdam behind the police station on the Boezemsingel 12. The Rotterdam Rijnmond Police Historical Collection is located there. Everything can be seen in that collection. But as a car enthusiast it is of course about the cars. The Volvo's are not visible, but there are pictures. And there is a, very nicely made, model in police execution. Of course there are also a number of old police cars in large format. Among other things, the photo car. The museum is open on Tuesday afternoon from 13.30 to 16.30 and admission is free. Paid parking is possible in front of the door. Just don't forget the chipknip because you can't pay with money or a debit card in Rotterdam. And it would be sour if you visit the police and you get a ticket because you didn't buy a parking ticket.
