For years he has been one of the large number of loyal readers of Auto Motor Klassiek. Tom Sangen likes to read our magazine. In addition, AMK is also a source of inspiration for him to translate classic motorsport ideas into the silver screen. It has since resulted in a number of beautiful vintage motorsport paintings.
“By reading all the great stories, I started painting motorsport topics from the years 50 / 60 / 70. Because I would like to further develop myself in this, I try to bring my work to the attention of a larger audience. Car enthusiasts in particular are an important target group for vintage motorsport paintings, "Tom Sangen tells us.
For sale
All original paintings (acrylic paint on canvas) are for sale. In addition, reproductions will soon be available in A4 and A3 format. If there is sufficient interest, Tom Sangen will also deliver the art works in large format. They are then produced as a Glicée print in a numbered and limited edition.
Paintings refer to memorable races
One of the paintings, Ratio's Victory, was made in response to Gijs van Lennep's 1976 victory at Le Mans. As you know, it is 40 years ago that he (together with Jacky Ickx) finished and won his last race in the Porsche 936. Tom Sangen translated more motorsport history to the silver screen. The Alfa Romeo 158 Alfetta with Juan Manuel Fangio behind the wheel is aptly depicted. This painting, Sunshine After Rain, refers to the 1950 BRDC International Trophy at Silverstone.
Hezemans' Alfa
Also the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3 of Toine Hezemans (Toine's Targa) was also immortalized. Striking is the typical and complete style with which Sangen depicts these historic racers and others with the brush. A fourth artwork is “The American Dream”, a painted ode to the Cunningham C4R, with which the 1954 hour of Le Mans was held in 24.
