Purchasing classics there

The VW Bus offers a lot of space, is reliable and provides the desired comfort. A long journey always turns into a pleasure trip! The photo shows the tasteful interior, the spacious benches have easy backrests, and plenty of legroom. Attention has been paid to the smallest details and the view of the 2 Volkswagen T1972 Kleinbus is almost perfect in all directions.

By: Dirk de Jong

The view of the instruments is ideal in the driver's cab. Useful storage space over the entire width. What we cannot describe in these photos is the famous air-cooled engine, listening and enjoying the boxer sound, too. An over-enthusiastic description of a trendsetter? The owner, Frits, likes to go the extra mile.

Criticism inevitable?

Professional black viewers can flawlessly list the disadvantages after the rejuvenation treatment of the Volkswagen T2 Kleinbus. That the car is not in competition condition, with a scratch here and there. Of course there is always something to criticize.

Frits : “In the business life in which I am active (the flower trade), criticism is inevitable. I have never been able to satisfy everyone in my long career. It is important to focus on my work and on my VW hobby and I am fortunately completely independent of the opinion of others.”

solidity

Frits: “By the previous owner, this Panorama bus was restored at the expense of a lot of spare time and euros. I still enjoy the result every day. It is beautiful to look at and to drive! The Volkswagen T2 Kleinbus is used for special occasions. Sometimes also linked to my flower shop as an eye-catcher, and I get a lot of appreciation for that. I am captivated by the reliability, the power of the air-cooled engine means that no mountain is too high and it does what it was purchased for: drive.”

Top of the time

The Volkswagen bus is a symbol of a happier time. Is still reliable and offers freedom for its owner. Just a leading model, is there anyone else who can answer the question: Beautiful or not beautiful?

  1. I agree with Henk and Peter. Brakes etc. much too lousy for eg daily traffic.
Peter is unlucky that the marketing device of pon concern costs billions, but also works. Ford didn't or doesn't do much about that. That is how Opel and Saab "went down". Mother GM didn't think it was that important here in Europe. so bad marriage

  2. Nice thing, but actually it was not a very good bus. Engine in the back, therefore moderate load space with a high bump in the back, poor road holding, moderate/poor crash resistance, moderate comfort, moderate performance. Certainly not a trendsetter, even though this bus is being elevated to an icon, more and more artificially. Cars like the Citroën H-series, Hanomag, Ford Transit, Renault Estafette and the like are just way better.
The main reason that the VW bus (first in America) was so popular with the hippies was because it was so cheap second-hand, because nobody wanted it. Any American bus (with V8!) is of course by far preferable to such a VW bus.

    • This is a nice van, but usually they are unfortunately much too expensive to purchase.
12 years ago I sold my Ford Transit MK1 in new condition (bodywork in showroom condition and only 16.000 km) at the autotron in Rosmalen. Certainly as beautiful as the VW bus and also a better vehicle. Sold with great difficulty for barely 2000 euros. VW vans in the same condition were already priced 10x higher then.

  3. A feast for the eyes and apparently original. Funny to see how the heating air is returned from under the dashboard through the doors to the rear compartment.
And to remember that we used to drive to Munich with an (Air Force) T2 and arrived there with completely frozen feet. Also in the T3s the heaters weren't much better until the water cooled models came along!
Also unforgettable how far they got into the terrain, just with rear-wheel drive!

  4. When I served in the Air Force from 1968 to 1973 as an airplane painter, I still sprayed the slatted bus (combie) T-1, I have never seen the T-2 again. Hence my preference to airbrush them.
