Tjeerd is a true car enthusiast with a great love for special vintage cars that set you apart. In his shed there are several showpieces competing for the beauty trophy. His 1800 Volvo 1972 ES radiates appeal, and you can see the enthusiasm in his shining eyes when he tells about the car's story. It remains nice to come into contact with enthusiasts who can talk enthusiastically about their car hobby. If you have owned a car for so long (since 1987), you naturally develop a personal bond with it.
The history
This desirable Volvo 1800 ES was delivered new to an American soldier in Spain, who served his time at a naval base. After his military service, the car went to Belgium and then ended up with an owner in the Netherlands. The necessary technical work has been done on the power source (more power), but the originality of the car has been retained. Tjeerd is active in social activities, attends national meetings and enjoys challenging rides through various continents.
Social networks
There are many contacts in his network, especially with like-minded people. The Volvo driver must also have a listening ear outside the club, because many enthusiasts have a great need for contact. Tjeerd is regularly approached at gas stations for conversations about his exclusive Volvo 1800 ES, gets a thumbs up, and is often applauded along the way. In the 60s and 70s, the Volvo was highly priced and few people could afford such a special “Grand Tourer GT”.
Elegant Grand Tourer
Tjeerd: “This Volvo 1800 ES is one of Volvo's most recognizable models, originally intended for the American market. As for recognisability, let us not forget that Volvo gained star status through the TV series 'The Saint', played by Roger Moore with his snow-white and graceful coupe. The beautifully designed car was first produced in England (Jensen Motors), but again in Sweden from 1963. My Volvo has an overdrive, a separate system next to the gearbox, which offers more comfort at higher speeds. I sometimes press the accelerator firmly, but of course responsibly, taking into account the busy traffic. After all, classic car drivers are well-intentioned road users. My increasingly rare 1800 ES has a striking color. The association of insurers says that the color yellow has a positive effect on safety. (The red and green colors are also involved in fewer accidents due to their conspicuousness.)”
Nice driver's car
Tjeerd: “For me, the Volvo 1800 ES is a wonderful driver's car, comfortable, in beautiful condition, and now a collector's item. The Hollandia/Vermeulen sliding roof provides light and air for relaxing rides at home and abroad. Cherishing vintage cars is more than just a fun hobby, for me it is also about keeping the automotive past tangible. Also with my other showpieces, driving with the old technology of the past is the charm of the hobby.”

The Coupe is already very nice, and personally I think the ES is a beautiful design.
I think it is 'stylishly cool' and also practical. It is also special that the owner has had it for so long, and that says something about both the car and the owner.
A beautiful design. In Germany this model has a somewhat sinister nickname: 'Schneewittchensarg' or Snow White's coffin.
Beautiful, rare Volvo classic car!
