Purchasing classics there

Yesterday, as stated in these columns, Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl handed over the file with 27.000 signatures to the Financial Committee of the Lower House. It didn't stop with that handing over. Because in the meantime the delegates have already made agreements with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Hearing
It was striking that there was more than normal interest in politics for the vintage car file. Wouter van Embden and his team members were very enthusiastic. It was special that prof.dr. Peter Essers - chairman of the Financial Committee - interrupted the pension debate to welcome Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl and receive the file in person. This file contains all the findings that show that the 40 annual scheme devised by State Secretary Weekers, among others, causes a lot of damage to the sector, the enthusiast and the State Treasury.

Next steps have been taken
By making agreements with politicians, Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl united the petition with new steps. Because the agreements made with members of the House of Representatives already show that from that side they absolutely want to listen to the arguments. But also the fact that in the agenda of Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl meetings with First Chamber members are noted is important. Because there, the measures proposed by the Cabinet and Ministries are tested against qualitative standards.

Certainly agreements with Senate members are of great importance
Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl showed in August - together with lawyer Mr. Tom Barkhuysen - that the entire 40 annual compromise and the old-timer section concluded last fall are based on legal quicksand. It is expected that the members of the Senate concerned will also agree with these findings. The agreements made with those involved were therefore the most important step of the day for Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl, in contrast to the few minutes of publicity that PowNed spent on the old-timer file.

PowNed falls through the basket
The small channel with its alternative way of "sitting on the news" did not go much further in the small report than finding that every road user has to pay road tax. That is the incorrect approach. Because road tax does not disappear in an MRB box, but is simply part of the total tax burden. In addition, the reporter from PowNed would have done well to go over the old-timer file of Wouter van Embden and his team. Then, together with his editorial team, he could have concluded that the abolition of the exemption would not cost € 157 million, but would cost at least € 250 million. They didn't do that. And so the maneuvers of Vrijstellingoldtimer.nl in the political corridors are of much greater value than the form of media attention that PowNed gave to the politically revealing file. And with which Wouter van Embden, as usual, knew great advice.

  1. Exactly Patrick, pulp news. Pulpned might have been a better name. Unsurprisingly, reporters already have an obligation to provide information from a moral point of view, given the impact that incorrect information can have on public opinion. With this action it has become painfully clear that Powned is ignoring this.
