Only a short time ago we had a message about the highway police of the past. It may not have been a response to that message, but we now got the news that the Louwman Museum has scored a real National Police Porsche.
One of the first Porsches delivered to the National Police
The Louwman Museum has added a National Police Porsche to the collection. The car is one of three still existing cars from the first series of Porsches purchased by the National Police.
It is a Porsche of the type 356B from 1962. The special equipment consists of, among other things, a blue flashing light, loudspeaker, a so-called Stornophone and is equipped with the recognizable stickers of the National Police.
The Porsche 356 was delivered in March 1962 to the Special Traffic Tasks Section of the National Police. The car was assigned to the police duo van Rijn / de Steen and served until 1966. At the time, the work area included the 2 / 26 / 4 / 4a motorways. The Porsche is provided with a HG-12-27 license plate and was known as ALEX 2707 by the Dutch National Police.
To join the elite corps of the National Police, the strict selection procedure had to be undergone. The drivers had to have extensive driving experience, good physical condition and excellent driving skills. In addition, the minimum age was at least 25 years and the candidates had to be married and preferably have children. In this way it was guaranteed that drivers would take their responsibility and not take unnecessary risks in traffic,
Louwman Museum
The museum's permanent collection shows the history of the automobile in all its forms and from all eras. More than 250 cars from more than 100 manufacturers provide an equally beautiful and impressive overview of the various body styles and technological innovations, particularly from the last century. The history is illustrated by the world's most extensive automobile art collection, including historical posters, sculptures, trophies and paintings.
And also for car and motorcycle enthusiasts who have nothing to do with Porsches or the police, the museum is an absolute must.
