White mice: the Porsches police

Holiday content banner

Nowadays, police cars for highway controls are boring. The people at the KLPD think so too.

In the past ... It used to be different. Then they rode Porsches and Range Rovers. the Porsches were and impressive. The Range Rovers are not only extremely tough and impressive, but also extremely strong. They were therefore enthusiastically deployed to tow wrecks off the road immediately after an accident.

This is no longer the case, because traces of research often have to be done first.

The Porsches 356 were delivered to the Special Traffic Tasks Section of the National Police at the beginning of the 60s. The cars got their own drivers. They were deployed on fixed routes and within the KLPD had the call name 'Alex', followed by a number. Later the 356s were replaced by 911s.

The Porsches were used to reduce the number of serious accidents on the highways. At that time there was no maximum speed and guardrails were missing on the highways.

The fast Porsches were able to overtake speed devils and force them to stop.

With the long leather jackets and the pothelms, policemen were awe-inspiring.

To join the elite corps of the National Police, the strict selection procedure had to be undergone. The drivers had to have extensive driving experience, good physical condition and excellent driving skills. In addition, the minimum age was at least 25 years and the candidates had to be married and preferably have children. This way it was guaranteed that the drivers would take their responsibility and not take unnecessary risks in traffic.
