Zoutelande - pronounced "Soetelande" - lies on Walcheren and directly behind the dike on the coast.
We had booked there for last weekend, but the dog sitting was suddenly prevented.
Because our dog Wammes is the proof that a dog does not have to come from Verweggistan to be mistreated and traumatized, 1,2,3 arranging a new babysitter was not so useful. Wammes is rather unconventional in terms of people.
A little hopeful phone call to 'our' recently booked weekend hotel 'de Distel' solved all the problems. Hotel restaurant de Distel turned out to be dog friendly. The receptionist happily changed the sense that there are more dog and pet friendly hotels. There is even a site of it. See, we hadn't thought of that.
In the firm expectation to arrive in a room that smelled like a dog, the dog problem was nicely solved and we drove to Zeeland.
In Zoutelande we appeared to have the only classic on the hotel parking, but certainly not the only dog lovers on the spot. It was teeming with seals ... And our own four-legged asylum seeker thought it was fantastic and he still had undiscovered social skills.
And the room we had?
He didn't smell like a dog and was also great for each other.
If you are there in good weather Zealand has a lot of sun hours - friendly staff, a pleasant terrace and a good kitchen count ...
So the next time the dog just goes along again.
