Last weekend, the 22nd edition of the renowned classic car event InterClassics & TopMobiel took place in MECC Maastricht. With the themes 'Grand Prix Classics' and '80 years of Jaguar', the oldtimer fair managed to attract 26.607 visitors. The sales expectations of the more than 320 exhibitors were largely exceeded. The organization, the visitors and the participants were enthusiastic about the qualitative and varied offer at the fair, the combination of the themes, the expansion of the fair with an extra fair day and the atmosphere on the floor.
Grand Prix Classics & 80 years of Jaguar crowd pullers
During the 2015 edition of the fair, a unique collection of Grand Prix cars was one of the appealing themes. In collaboration with the Historische Auto Ren Club (HARC) and the Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort, 20 exclusive models were presented, including the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza of Tazio Nuvolari (1933), Ferrari 340 F1 of Alberto Ascari (1950), Maserati 250F of Stirling Moss (1956), March 701 of Jackie Stewart and first Tyrell (1970) and the McLaren M26 of James Hunt (1977 ). Jaguar's 80th anniversary was celebrated in collaboration with the Jaguar Daimler Club Holland (JDCH). Some of the most famous racing Jaguars of all time made an appearance in Maastricht, including the Jaguar XK120 'NUB 120' (1950), Jaguar C-Type (1953), Jaguar D-Type XKD 606 the 1957 Le Mans winner and the Jaguar Silk Cut XJR9, with which Jan Lammers won Le Mans 1988.
Coys Europe auction
The prestigious British auction house Coys Europe auctioned around 100 European and American classics on Saturday, including the Mercedes Benz 600 (1968), which was sold for € 188.000. All auction pieces could be admired by the public throughout the weekend.
TopMobile Preview Night
The TopMobiel Preview Night took place on Wednesday evening, the evening before the start of the exhibition. During this evening, guests could enjoy a top culinary offer surrounded by the most exclusive models from the Grand Prix history. The culinary journey of discovery was led by Toine Hermsen and his daughter food designer Annelies Hermsen in collaboration with Maison van den Boer. TopMobiel Preview Night supported the Limburg-based Lob'Star Foundation. A foundation that collects money to give families, one of the children with cancer, an unforgettable holiday or a day out. The organized lottery earned € 11.500 for charity.
No record
This year, visitors were given an extra day the opportunity to visit the fair in Maastricht. Last year the beautiful fair in Maastricht attracted a record number of visitors. For the organization that was partly a reason to expand the exhibition with an extra preview day. This expansion was created to be able to spread the number of visitors over more days. The organization attached importance to the fact that the participants in the exhibition could pay more attention to the customers. The 2015 edition did not lead to a visitor record. This year 26.617 people passed the gates of MECC Maastricht. The record of last year - 27.974 visitors - therefore remains at least one year.
Extra edition InterClassics in Brussels on 6,7 and 8 November 2015
During a press conference on Thursday, it was announced that InterClassics & TopMobiel will also have a Brussels edition from 2015. The first edition of InterClassics Brussels will take place in BRUSSELS EXPO on 6, 7 and 8 November 2015. InterClassics Brussels is organized by MECC Maastricht in collaboration with BRUSSELS EXPO. Bugatti will be the central theme in Brussels.
